Desperately Seeking Blog Traffic? : Online Marketing Business Tips That Help

If you have an online marketing business, chances are pretty good that you are desperately seeking blog traffic. Setting up a blog is easy-peasy, but finding content for it that makes readers come back for more can be much more difficult. The internet is a huge network of people all trying to accomplish something big with their websites and blogs. Finding your blog might be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So how do you get more traffic?

There are many reasons why one might decide to set up a blog, and too often, people just want to express themselves and try to make a few bucks doing it. The problem is, if you’re talking about something on your blog that no one really cares about or is interested in, then you’re probably wasting your time. An online marketing business can be comprised of a lot of different sub-topics. Choosing and focusing on a few topics that people are dying to know about, such as increasing blog traffic, is a great way to improve your readership.

You have to find a hungry market within your online marketing business niche, and make what you write about interesting and attention grabbing. You can do this by tuning into what people want. Searching the dicussion forums for hot topics and emotional topics may be a good way to decide what to write about in your blog. If you can appeal to someone’s emotions, or write what people are passionate about, then you are likely to draw in a good audience.

Creating a good title for your article and blog posts is a crucial step in creating blog traffic. If you do your keyword research and use good keywords and keyword phrases in your titles and blog posts, then your keywords will be indexed by the search engines. When people do a keyword search in Google, chances are your page will come up in the results. Good titles and keywords may lead to clicks to your blog, but obviously you need more than a title and a keyword to attract a solid readership.

One thing that online marketing business owners seem to forget is that you need to network with other bloggers. By this I mean visiting other people’s blogs that are related to your business, and making comments on their blog posts. You may wonder what the use of this is and how this can create more traffic to your blog, but when you leave a useful comment with a link to your blog, you will get more visitors to your blog as well. Just remember to leave a useful comment that makes people want to know what you have to say on your blog.

It’s nice to show a bit of personality in your blog posts so that people reading your blog know that you are human. By doing so, you also spark some emotion in the readers. Particularly in the online marketing business world, which can get pretty boring, it’s good to show a bit of yourself and your experiences within your posts. But over-doing it can be more detrimental than good. Make sure you include some beefy articles with juicy content that readers can’t get anywhere else, or in very few other places.

Getting the search engines to index your blog posts is a great way to generate traffic to your blog, but online marketing business owners often forget that there are search engines, and there are blog search engines. Google is fantastic, but remember to also use it to look up “blog search engines” to find a list of other great places to submit your posts to.

Finally, it’s easy to get into this routine of creating blog posts for your online marketing business in a certain familiar style. While consistency is good, it’s also a great idea to go crazy once in a while and do something completely off-the-wall and original. Something as simple as including a photograph in your blog posts can really bring in a lot of new traffic.

Use these top online marketing business tips if you are desperately seeking blog traffic and you will notice a definite improvement that will make you a happy blogger!

What’s so Great About Twitter?

“What are you doing?” This is the question that Twitter asks you upon logging in or upon opening the site. Just what are you doing? If this is how the site charms its members, what’s so great about Twitter?

First, you need to know what the site is. Basically, it is a social network and micro-blogging service. If you are familiar with FaceBook, MySpace, or Multiply, then you’ll have no problems getting into Twitter.

As a social network, it aims to gather groups of people who have the same interests. As a micro-blogging service, it provides short updates on the users blogs, or even just his activities.

Twitter is all about the “tweets”, or updates. Updates are the answers to the ultimate Twitter question: “What are you doing?” What’s great about Twitter is that is only requires you 140 characters to answer the site’s central question. To many, the prescribed length of characters is seen as a limitation. On the other hand, it challenges you to say things using fewer words. After all, less is always more!

So again, what’s so great about Twitter? What makes it different from other social networking sites?

The Terms

The terms that Twitter uses are unique and interesting enough to differentiate the site from other social networks, like “tweet”, for example. Below is a list of Twitter terms that you need to be familiar with:

1.Follower – Those who have chosen to receive your tweets. Simply put, these are your friends who want to be updated about your life.

2.Following – Those whom you want to be updated about. For instance, if you are following Anna, you will receive Anna’s tweets regularly. Following Anna essentially shows that you want to know what Anna is up to as of the moment.

3.Nudge – This is a friendly reminder to your circle, urging them to give out updates. You can nudge, and you can be nudged.

The Commands

The commands used in Twitter are plain and simple, no pesky steps that need to be followed. If you want to tweet, you simply have to write your message in the small box on top of your page.

The registration process? Simply wonderful! You don’t need to key in a number of unimportant pieces of personal information. You just have to be ready with a username (and Twitter checks out the availability of that chosen name right then and there), a password, an email address, and a URL to your personal site or blog, if you have one. The registration process takes no more than 2 minutes of your time.

The Ways to Receive the Tweets

With Twitter, you are provided with more than one way of sending your tweets. This feature is perhaps the most remarkable edge of Twitter. So how can you post your 140-character updates?

1. Through your home page at Twitter.com. – This is the most widely-used method of tweeting. The home page is so friendly and is neat-looking. As such, you aren’t bothered by pesky pop-ups, complicated commands, and useless applications whose sole purpose is to make the page look heavy. Now with such an atmosphere, isn’t it nice to just randomly type in your thoughts? Even tweets such as “I’m bored” are very welcome on Twitter!

2. Through your mobile phone. – Before you can use this feature, you need to verify your number first. It can be done in a few simple steps.

Before you start, however, you initially need to check if your area or country of residence supports this type of service. Surely, those living in the US and Canada will fully enjoy the advantages of this feature.

3. Through http://www.m.twitter.com. – This is Twitter’s mobile site.

4. Through third-party applications. – Twitter Fan Wiki is the most popular third party application that uses Twitter’s API (Application Programming Interface). As it is a “wiki”, you can add, remove, and edit available content. You simply have to create an account to join this group.

Twitter is a relatively new network. Its official launching can be traced back no more than two years ago – July 15, 2006, to be exact. Despite this, it has gathered more than 3 million accounts in just over two years of operation. This shows how increasingly popular Twitter has become.

So, what’s so great about Twitter? Everything!

Top 3 Reasons To Use Twitter

Many times in life we may find ourselves going through the motions and not really realizing why we’re doing certain things or the benefits of doing them. Twitter can be like this sometimes, however I made a list of the top 3 reasons I use twitter to remind myself why I’m sharing with others my miscellaneous ramblings and why twitter has become so popular recently.

1. Get the most up-to-date information- Ever heard of the phrase “what have you done for me lately? Remember when that plane landed in the Hudson River in New York? Twitterers’ were the first to report that with live pictures. One of the big advantages of twitter is that it operates in real-time, so you know what’s going on right now. When you first start using twitter you may not know what to expect. One thing you can count on is that the information on twitter is the most current you can possibly get. Twitter will always be doing things for you lately. Keep in mind some of the most influential people and brightest minds in the world are using twitter. Barack Obama, Al Gore and many other business owners, marketers, bloggers and celebrities are regular tweeters as well so you can get access to information that you probably would not have otherwise or might take much more time to research.

2. Viral Conversation- like anything it may take some time to get the hang of twitter and find all the people you would like to follow. But once this happens twitter can become a very valuable and enjoyable tool. As you join the conversation and people get to know you, they may be able to give you some valuable insight and perspective about your situation. Of course, you would have to take the initiative and ask people most of the time, but like the saying goes “Ask and you shall receive”.

For example, if you are undecided about a certain product to buy, you can simply ask your followers if they have had any experience with the products you are considering. Chances are somebody will be able to give you some feedback that will help you make a more informed buying decision. Or you can ask about something more casual like which movie to go see. If you have some movie-watching followers they may give you some good feedback about their thoughts on some movies.

3. Market your business or yourself- if you have a website or blog like I do, you can utilize twitter to gain more notoriety and drive more traffic. For example, if you make a new blog post you can simply make a tweet telling people that you have made a new post and many people will click on the link in your tweet to read it. If you are an affiliate marketer, you can make a tweet about a coupon or update from a merchant that might help monetize your website as well. Make sure that you are making other tweets in the interim, there is nothing more annoying than following somebody who only says “hey go check out my blog” or “hey go to my website”, but just know that you can use twitter to build your business.

For those that don’t have a website or blog, you can simply use twitter to market yourself or build your brandname. Many employers are checking facebook and myspace pages nowadays to make a more informed decision about the candidates they may potentially hire. If they find you on twitter, it may give you another opportunity to make a good impression and show them you are socially conscious, which is always a good thing. Also keep in mind that people are much more likely to buy things from people they know, so if you are selling anything or plan to sell anything in the future, twitter can definitely be beneficial to you in this way as well.

The bottomline is that twitter is more than just telling people about what you are doing. I would recommend starting off slowly to see what others are doing and how they utilize twitter. Then as you gradually get the hang of it, you can get more involved and it will become much easier. You should be advised that twitter can get very addicting though, and like everything I would also recommend using twitter in moderation.

As a general rule, the more people that you follow, the more people will follow you. So you might have to do some legwork in the beginning and do some searches to find people. Search for topics that you are interested in and you will find tons of interesting people to follow that will provide valuable information. Chances are that many of these people will follow you back. This will be well worth the time because the more people that you have to converse with, the more enjoyable twitter will be for you.

Keep in mind though that content is king in twitter, so don’t forgot to make good tweets and people will find you. You can also re-tweet other comments that you think people will be interested in, just make sure to keep their @name in the beginning of it so the person that made the original tweet will get credit for it.

Some will still prefer to socialize with only people that they know on FaceBook or MySpace, which I can understand. Many others will probably think they are too cool for twitter. I would argue that you can get to know people pretty well through socializing with them on the internet and that many people thought they were too cool for MySpace and Facebook when they first came out and now more than 30 million people have a FaceBook account. Whichever you prefer, it’s all about being social and having fun. Thanks for reading and hope to catch up with you soon!

Getting Started With Twitter

What Is This Twitter You Speak Of?

So what is Twitter and how can it be of benefit to you or your business? Twitter is a free online micro-blogging application which gives you the ability to send out short messages (up to 140 characters) called “tweets” to people who are following you on Twitter. You can send tweets either through your computer or by using your cell phone via a text message. These tweets/messages can be about anything you want and they can include links, as well. Making Twitter even more useful is the ability to send a direct message to someone you are following (this is done by entering @username at the beginning of your message) or replying to someone’s tweet with your own. You would be surprised how common it is to reply to someone’s message then to have someone who is either following you or the person you sent the reply to reply to your initial message and so on.

People can follow you and your tweets by first signing-up for their own free Twitter account at the Twitter site then adding you to their list of people they are following. Once you have created your account, you can either check your Twitter page (your own personal page which appears after you sign-in at the Twitter home page) for any of your friend’s new messages or you can send out your own. But it is much easier, in my opinion, to use one of the many online or desktop applications which give you the ability to do all of this and more.

Twitter As A Communication Tool

Twitter is a quick and easy way to communicate with family, friends, business associates, and also within a company setting. Being an online service, Twitter is available to anyone with online access. All you have to do is login to your account through any number of third-party applications developed for Twitter or through the Twitter site and you are ready to go. Within a company setting, employees could have a Twitter account created for them with the option to have their messages protected. This means only people they (or you or the person in charge of creating the Twitter accounts) approve will be able to send and receive messages from them. The same thing could be done using an instant message program but with Twitter, there would be no software to install and it would be accessible from anywhere with an online connection. Additionally, the person who is in charge of the Twitter accounts will have the power to control who is and who isn’t part of this private Twitter network.

Even though there are tons of online communication applications available, Twitter can also be used as a way for people who are collaborating on a project to stay in touch with one another regardless of where they are. And depending on which third-party application they are using to Twitter with, these conversations can be saved for future reference. There are even some third-party apps which you can use to send files up to 10MB to anyone you are following as long as they are using the same application, that is. Still, a handy feature to have and one which may become a feature of Twitter if there’s a big enough demand for it.

Marketing With Twitter

Here in lies the great thing about Twitter from a business perspective: the marketing potential it offers users. Sure, it is great to send messages and chat using Twitter, but it can also be a great marketing tool if used correctly. Have some breaking news you want to get out quickly? Send it out as a Tweet. Made an important update to your blog or web site? Let people know about it instantly with a Tweet. Want to promote your project, book, movie, whatever by giving away a free download or preview? Send out a Tweet with a URL to the free download. Only want to market something to certain individuals you are following? Simply enter their username preceded by the “@” and you are set.

Another simple marketing tool available with Twitter is the ability to befriend people who are following someone you already follow. While this practice could backfire on you if you begin to add everyone you find following someone you are following, be picky and just befriend those who either share similar tastes that you do or work in the same field as you or already follow many of the same people you do. Otherwise, you could come off as a spammer which will be a hard image to shake.

Twitter Now And Beyond

Twitter represents a fundamental change in the way people communicate online. There have always been instant messengers and they have their place and purpose but they don’t offer the one thing which sets Twitter apart and that is the ability to instantly communicate with either a couple of people or potentially thousands without the need for proprietary software. No need to download this piece of software in order to communicate with this person or that organization.

Much like how blogging has become a staple of today’s society, Twitter and “twittering” is on the same path to becoming ingrained in today’s culture despite only being around for less than two years. So simple in its execution, powerful in the marketing opportunities it offers, and ease of use, Twitter will be one of the top web technologies to gain worldwide prominence in 2008.
